Biography of Joseph Buckingham, Sr.
Mr. Buckingham is a security, privacy and technology consultant specializing in the business and technical issues, and requirements of client/server applications; technology management and control in networked, distributed and Ecommerce environments; business continuity and disaster recovery; information asset protection; and privacy issues for small organizations and individual users. His extensive experience including line management spans mainframes to personal computers. He has excelled during assignments in information systems, business planning and measurements, end-user support, technology sales, marketing, consulting and auditing. This spectrum of assignments has provided him with a broad and comprehensive perspective of privacy, security and technology management processes and creative, effective solutions. Mr. Buckingham conducted and supervised audits of the global technology infrastructure of JPMorganChase Bank as well as serving as the center of excellence for client/server, network and system management risks and controls. He participated in various worldwide technology initiatives as a member of: the I/T Engineering Board, Distributed Computing Platform Working Group - Distributing Computing Strategy committee; Distributed Computing Standards Rationalization group; the UNIX Server Technology Selection project; the Security Architecture Group; the Data Encryption Transmission Working Group; and the Secure Email Working Group. Mr. Buckingham has also managed the Technology Services staff of the General Auditing division which: developed technology infrastructure strategy and architecture; supported audit application teams; performed technology research and development; provided liaison with internal and external service providers; managed technology assets and the technology capital and expense plan. Prior to joining the bank he provided technical consulting and client support services in the IBM Northeastern Area Systems center. Earlier he served as the official representative of IBM U.S. to the internal auditing profession, which included memberships on the Advanced Technology Committee of the Institute of Internal Auditors and the Research Advisory Council of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (formerly the EDPAA). He conceived, developed and managed the IBM Audit Executive Institute – the first executive-level education for auditors offered by IBM. He also served as the IBM representative to the Audit projects of the GUIDE and SHARE IBM-user associations. Mr. Buckingham has spoken on audit and security subjects at local chapter meetings, regional, national, and international conferences sponsored by the IIA, ISACA, the Computer Security Institute, the Bank Administration Institute, MIS Training Institute, and IIA - United Kingdom. Mr. Buckingham earned a BS in Mathematics with a minor in Economics from Manhattan College and an MBA in Finance with a minor in Accounting from Iona College. He is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). Mr. Buckingham is a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. as well as an avid (but terrible) golfer, an m-theory dilettante, a doo-wop and jazz lover. Go figure. |
